Tanzania is a year-round destination, and the best time depends entirely on what you want to see.
The long dry season, from June to October, is the classic time for safari. The bush is thin, animals gather at water, and wildlife is easy to find across the parks. This is also the season of the Mara River crossings in the northern Serengeti, usually between July and September. It is the busiest and driest time of year.
The short dry season, in January and February, is warm and clear, and it is when the wildebeest calve on the southern Serengeti plains, thousands born each day, with predators close behind.
The green seasons, the short rains in November and the long rains from March to May, bring dramatic skies, newborn animals, superb birdlife and far fewer visitors. Some remote camps close during the heaviest rains and a few roads become difficult, but the landscape is at its most beautiful.
For the coast and Zanzibar, June to October and December to February offer the best beach weather, though the islands are warm all year.
