Tanzania is one of the great birding countries of the world. More than eleven hundred species have been recorded here, from tiny sunbirds to giant ground hornbills, and you do not need to be a specialist to enjoy them.
On safari you will see them everywhere: lilac-breasted rollers on the acacias, ostriches striding across the plains, secretary birds hunting snakes, and huge flocks of flamingos turning the soda lakes pink. Fish eagles call over the rivers of the south, and the forests of the Eastern Arc Mountains hold species found nowhere else on Earth.
The green season, from November to May, is the best time for birds, when migrants arrive from Europe and Asia and the resident species are in their breeding colours. For keen birdwatchers we can build a journey around the richest sites and the right season, guided by someone who knows the calls.
