Climbing Kilimanjaro

Six to nine days on the mountain. No technical skill required.

Overview

Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, at five thousand eight hundred and ninety-five metres. Reaching the summit is one of the great walking challenges on Earth and, with the right preparation, it is within reach of most fit and determined travellers. There is no technical climbing involved.

What the journey is like

We guide the scenic Machame and Lemosho routes, chosen for their beauty and their gentler acclimatisation. The climb passes through five climate zones, from rainforest to alpine desert to the ice near the summit, over six to nine days. Our guides are certified, our porters are treated and paid properly, and the whole climb is paced around getting you safely to the top and down again.

When to go

The clearest, driest windows are January to mid-March and June to October. We avoid the heaviest rains of April, May and November.
